Tarangire is world-renowned for its massive concentration of African elephants, with herds often numbering in the hundreds. These gentle giants are frequently seen gathering along the banks of the Tarangire River or seeking shade beneath the park’s other famous residents: the Baobab trees. These ancient “Trees of Life,” some estimated to be over a thousand years old, dot the rolling savannah with their massive, twisted trunks and root-like branches. For travelers, the sight of an elephant family silhouetted against a towering baobab at sunset is one of the most iconic images of the African wilderness.

Best Time To Visit

The best time to visit Tarangire National Park depends on your wildlife interests:

• June to October Dry season, ideal for game viewing as animals congregate around the Tarangire River.
• November to May: Green season, characterized by lush landscapes and fewer tourists, with excellent bird watching and the birth of many animals.
