Tarangire National Park is known for its large elephant herds and ancient baobab trees. The Tarangire River draws wildlife in the dry season, and lions, leopards, cheetahs and oryx have all been seen here.
The drive from Arusha is about 120 km and takes 2 to 2.5 hours. The best wildlife viewing is from June to October, in the dry season. Elephants are present all year.
Bring a buff or scarf: game drives in Tarangire can be dusty.
