The Machame Route stands among the most popular paths to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. Trekkers often call it the Whiskey Route due to its scenic but challenging terrain.
This route approaches the mountain from the southern slopes. It passes through five ecological zones. Rainforest, moorland, alpine desert, and the arctic summit zone.
The seven day itinerary improves acclimatization. Gradual altitude gain increases summit success rates. The route offers wide views of Mount Meru, the Shira Plateau, and the glaciers near the summit.
Climbers reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters. The highest point in Africa.
