Mount Kilimanjaro is the highest mountain in Africa. Its summit, Uhuru Peak, stands at 5,895 m on the crater rim of Kibo. You need no technical climbing skills: the routes are long walks, and the challenge is the altitude.
On the way up you pass through every climate zone of the mountain: montane rainforest, giant heather and moorland, alpine desert, and finally the stone scree and ice of the summit. Summit night starts around midnight, so you reach the crater rim at sunrise.
We climb three routes. Machame takes 6 or 7 days and climbs through the forest from the south-west. Lemosho takes 8 days and crosses the Shira Plateau from the west, with more time to acclimatise. Rongai takes 7 days and approaches from the north, close to the Kenyan border, with an acclimatisation day at Mawenzi Tarn.
Professional mountain guides, cooks and porters climb with you. Park fees, rescue fees, mountain tents, meals and hotel nights before and after the climb are included.
You can climb all year. April and May bring the long rains, so we recommend the other months.
Safari, Kilimanjaro or the beaches of Zanzibar. Tell us your dates and group size, and we plan the rest.
