Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport. After clearing customs, your Kasaje Tours Africa driver meets you with a sign showing your name and takes you to Springlands Hotel on the outskirts of Moshi.
Visit the Chemka (Kikuletwa) Hot Springs with experienced local guides and swim in a natural pool with a warm, strong current. Rundugai village has baobab trees, farmland irrigated by local springs, birdlife and monkeys. Learn about the Maasai way of life, traditional herbal medicine and midwifery, and taste local food and banana beer (mbege). On clear days you see Mount Kilimanjaro and Mount Meru.
Drive to Lake Manyara National Park, set below the steep Rift Valley escarpment. The park combines groundwater forest, acacia woodland, grassy plains, a swampy fan delta and the lake. Manyara is known for tree-climbing lions. Look for buffalo, impala, giraffe, bushbuck, waterbuck, hippos and elephants, plus blue monkeys, vervet monkeys and olive baboons.
After breakfast, drive to Serengeti National Park. “Serengeti” comes from the Maasai language and means “endless plains”. On the way you can visit a Maasai village or Olduvai Gorge, known as the Cradle of Humanity (optional, extra cost). Game drive on the way to camp, followed by a night game drive.
A full day of game drives in the Serengeti, home of the Great Wildebeest Migration. Huge herds of wildebeest, zebra and antelope share the plains with lions and cheetahs, among the kopjes and acacia of the centre, the wooded hills of the north and the plains of the west.
Early morning game drive, then transfer to the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. In the afternoon, walk with a local Maasai guide through the hills and plains of Maasai country, where herders and wildlife share the land.
Descend to the floor of the Ngorongoro Crater: 600 m deep, 16 km across and 265 km² in area. Around 20,000 large animals live here, including black rhino, lion, cheetah, eland, zebra and gazelle. Flamingos often feed at Makat soda lake. In the afternoon, drive to Karatu.
A morning at leisure, then transfer to Arusha Airport or Kilimanjaro International Airport for your flight home.
