Ruaha National Park is one of the largest national parks in Africa, at about 20,226 km². It takes its name from the Great Ruaha River, which runs along its south-eastern edge and draws wildlife in the dry season.

Ruaha is home to large elephant herds, lions, leopards and cheetahs, and to antelope you rarely see in the north: greater kudu, sable and roan. African wild dogs live here too, and more than 570 bird species have been recorded.

Far fewer vehicles visit Ruaha than the Northern Circuit parks, so game drives feel wild and quiet.

The main gate is 108 km by road from Iringa town. Scheduled flights also land at the park's airstrips. The best wildlife viewing is in the dry season, from June to October.

Contact us to plan a Ruaha safari on its own, or combined with Kitulo and the Mbeya highlands.
